That's really annoying the seller didn't supply you with the Y-cable as it's pretty necessary when you are running the BSP while it's connected to a computer as it does tend to introduce noise.
If you are trying to use it with a DAW, it should have a list of MIDI devices for you to connect to, so you should be able to see it in it's list if the BSP is actually connecting to the computer. I do know when any USB device is connected to a Windows machine it'll let me know. I vaguely remember a device list somewhere that could be viewed, but I might be just imagining things. Continue to set up any other MIDI equipment you have.I've not owned a mac in over a decade so don't remember if they notify the user of when a USB device is connected.
Once you make a New Configuration you should see "SL MkII" "Launchkey" or whatever device you have properly. This will not work if the controller is not plugged in. With the Controller plugged in click the drop-down and make a New Configuration. If you do have the problem of a "USB MIDI Device" note at the top of the MIDI Studio Window a drop-down box that says "Configuration" under it. You should see your Controller listed by name, such as "Impulse." If you only see "USB MIDI Device" or "USB Audio Device" you may have this issue. (On older Mac operating systems it may show the option for Show MIDI Window) If it IS listed in the USB Device Tree next open Applications > Utilities > AudioMIDISetup > Window > Show MIDI Studio. This could be a hardware issue if it doesn't appear here ever, so contact Tech Support. Open the Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > System Report >USB and check that the Controller appears here in the USB Device Tree. Make sure the Controller is connected directly to the USB port on the Mac. If your USB MIDI Controller is not working on a Mac please check the following: This has now been found on a number of different MIDI Devices including Impulse, SL MkII, Launchpad S, Launchkey, etc. This causes odd behaviour, such as Devices not being available for use in programs, missing ports, Automap Buttons not working or connecting.
We have seen a small number of users with various Class Compliant USB MIDI Devices have an issue using Mac OS where the MIDI Devices do not appear properly to the computer.
